Training Modules

Training Sessions are developed according to the needs of the health care provider staff.

Selection could be made from the following modules:

  • OVERVIEWS OF DEMENTIA which includes the disease process of Alzheimer's disease / related dementia and current research outcomes. An understanding of brain disease with special emphasis on how the disease effects a person.
  • COMMUNICATION changes involved in the disease process and skills needed to better communicate with those who are diagnosed with dementia. Utilization if "best practices" for communication competency.
  • BEHAVIOR challenges found in dementia are defined. Based on a problem-solving methodology, triggers and interventions are indentified for management of the behaviors. Skills practice is used to facilitate staff competency.
  • HELPING WITH LIFE SKILLS (ADL'S) are effected by dementia according to the cognitive impairment experienced by the person. Competencies are taught to help create a better experience for the person with dementia during times of engagement with staff.
  • THERAPEUTIC/RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES are one of the most important behavioral interventions that can be utilized by all staff. Therapeutic engagement principals are introduced and discussed to provide staff with a better understanding of "brain exercise" and how daily therapeutic engagement sessions provide those with dementia a sense of belonging, accomplishment, and enjoyment in a structured setting that promotes their success.
  • FAMILY DYNAMICS are effected drastically and change constantly as the person with dementia progresses through the disease process. Caregiver skills are taught to help family members through the disease process and help them develop the ability to cope.
  • SPRITUALITY AND COMFORT CARE during the end stages of the disease process are of great importance to staff and family. Techniques are taught for caring for the person, family and caregivers during this difficult time.
  • STRESS MANAGEMENT for caregivers includes identification of stressors and learning how to cope with stress.
  • TEAM BUILDING for all staff, especially supervisors, managers, team leaders and "unofficial" leaders to help with recognizing how to build a successful team and improve staff retention. Coaching and team dynamics are the focus.
